Get in Early on Final Fantasy XI for 360
Now you too can beta test Square Enix's latest re-release of its popular MMORPG.
While Square Enix has generally been faithful to Sony since its split with Nintendo in the '90s, the company has been getting chummy with Microsoft lately. The two companies are working together on a new version of Final Fantasy XI for the Xbox 360, and you'll be able to give it a test run soon.
Square Enix revealed this week that it is teaming up with Xbox 360: Official Xbox Magazine to include a cover disc with the latest issue of the magazine that includes a beta version of the game.
Final Fantasy XI is a massively multiplayer online RPG built around the core of the Final Fantasy series. The game debuted on PlayStation 2 in Japan in 2002 and has since gone global and moved onto the PC. There have already been two expansion packs and a third, Final Fantasy XI: Treasures of Aht Urhgan, is headed to all platforms next year.
The beta version of Final Fantasy XI for Xbox 360 lets you get on the pre-final servers to iron out the final kinks before the game's released. Access is free during the beta test, but you will need to make sure you have a hard drive-equipped console.
Issue 4 of Xbox 360: Official Xbox Magazine will be in stores on 5 January. The full version of Final Fantasy XI for Xbox 360 will be out later in 2006.
