Ubisoft Gives Kong a Happy Ending
If the horror and anguish of simian death is too much for you to bear, you can now do something about it.
Few people walking into the three-hour-long spectacle that is King Kong did so unaware that the giant ape would plummet to his doom in the climactic scene. But those of you who shed a tear and wished that there was something that you could do to save Kong now have an out.
Ubisoft has revealed that it has hidden a happier conclusion to the tale in its recently released King Kong tie-in game. While the normal ending sees Kong fall from the Empire State, score enough points and you'll be able to spare his life.
Once saved, Kong is whisked back to Skull Island where you'll be able to visit him. There's no word yet on whether Naomi Watts' character travels back with Kong.
"I wanted the game to be able to take the audience a bit further than what the film could," said director Peter Jackson. "And the final climax of the game gave us an opportunity to do something that the film could not do, which was to have an alternate ending - obviously everybody pretty much knows how King Kong ends."
To get at the non-sad ending you'll need to backtrack and revisit areas to earn 250,000 points - something Ubisoft says is "within reason and definitely worth the effort". For your trouble, you'll also be rewarded with behind-the-scenes footage, including concept art galleries and an interview with Jackson.
