DS Serves 10m Worldwide
Nintendo DS is a bona fide hit.
A lot of the talk surrounding Nintendo deals with how the GameCube is doomed and the Revolution is perhaps too kooky for its own good, but many forget that the company is also responsible for the one of the best selling pieces of hardware right now - the Nintendo DS.
Thankfully, with little else to trumpet as truly exciting news at the moment (outside of Revolution stuff, of course), Nintendo has been keen to keep us up to date on the progress of its twin-screened portable. The latest announcement out of the company paints the DS as a bona fide hit, with 10 million already sold worldwide.
What's more, the console is the fastest selling game system ever in Japan, news that is doubly pleasing to Nintendo because it also means that it is spanking Sony's pretender to the crown, the PSP. And company representative Perrin Kaplan told news service Reuters that the portable is still on the "upswing" meaning that there's still plenty more to come.
The news is perhaps less rosy in Europe and the UK in particular. While the DS is admittedly selling well, its competition with the PSP is perhaps less clear-cut. DS owners have also complained of the long waiting times between the releases of games in North America and Japan and their debut over here.
