Quake IV Splashed By Multiplayer Mod
You've seen off the demons, now it's time for you to hit the battlefield. New must-see screens.
They say there's no such thing as a free lunch but Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, a free multiplayer mod released for Return to Castle Wolfenstein, turned the idiom on its head. Now developer Splash Damage is turning its eye on another top PC shooter, Quake IV, though this time the lunch does indeed come with a bill.
Quake Wars: Enemy Territory uses the Doom 3 engine to create a whole new experience. Set before the invasion that kicks off Quake II, the game sees you battling it out as either a member of the Earth Defense Force or as one of those dastardly Stroggs.
Doom 3 spooked players with its perpetual darkness, but Quake Wars: Enemy Territory not only comes with more light but a large part of the experience also takes place outside. Apart from the change in locales and the focus on multiplayer, the biggest change to gameplay is the inclusion of various vehicles.
Splash Damage has been working on the game for about two years now, though the cycle is finally coming to an end. Look for Quake Wars: Enemy Territory to hit the PC later this year.
