Xbox 360 Games Storm the Charts
Dead or Alive 4 leads a wave of resurgence as UK retailers bask in the jiggling fury of the Xbox 360.
Microsoft has promised for a long time that it would get Xbox 360s out regularly, but it's questionable whether the trickle into stores counts. Last week, though, there was some reprieve as what appears to be an increase in stock across the country meant that people were able to buy the console and also games, giving the Xbox 360 its best week since the December launch.
Topping the weekly ranking is Tecmo's lady-obsessed fighter Dead or Alive 4, which fills the fighting gap it left in the launch line-up when it was delayed. The extra Xbox 360 stock also means that other games for the console could sneak into the upper echelons, and a quarter of the Top 20 is made up of exclusives on the console.
There was little else in the way of new releases and the general apathy surrounding the winter Olympics was demonstrated by the 38th place opening of the official Torino 2006 tie-in.
Otherwise it was business as usual, as the regular top finishers simply shifted down a spot or two to make room for Xbox 360 games. No one knows whether this blip in stock will be a regular event or if we'll see Need For Speed: Most Wanted back on top next week.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 28 January, as determined by Chart Track:
- Dead or Alive 4 (Tecmo)
- Need For Speed: Most Wanted (EA)
- King Kong (Ubisoft)
- The Sims 2 (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (Konami)
- FIFA 06 (EA)
- Call of Duty 2 (Activision)
- Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (Rockstar)
- Project Gotham Racing 3 (Microsoft)
- Star Wars: Battlefront II (LucasArts)
