Resident Evil Scares Up Profits for Capcom
Coffers swell as the zombie-tastic series goes from strength to strength.
Call it the Resident Evil effect. While Capcom has always been a darling among fans of Japanese games, its star has been on the rise this year. The company revealed this week that its profit improved four-fold over last year's and a big part of that success is thanks to one game.
Resident Evil 4 debuted on GameCube and was an instant hit with fans and critics alike. Capcom revealed that following the release of the PlayStation 2 version, nearly a year later, global sales of the game have now topped 3 million units, according to a report at Next Generation.
The sequel, Resident Evil 5, is already being tapped as one of the game to watch on next-gen consoles, though series director Keiji Inafune admitted recently that development is still in the early stages.
The game is set for release on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, though the release date is still unknown.
