Sony Undecided on PS3 Launch Date
Would-be owners languish in ignorance as Sony rebuffs its latest opportunity to dish the dirt on the eagerly awaited console's arrival.
Apart from all the technical details, there's also plenty of confusion about when people can expect the PlayStation 3. Until this week the official line out of Japan was that the console would launch this spring - at least in that country. But even that's not clear anymore.
Sony's Asian boss, Tetsuhiko Yasuda, told Mainichi Daily News that Sony has yet to decide on a launch date, Next Generation is reporting. It seems that looming piracy issues are giving the company pause until it is "completely prepared."
There were hopes that the PlayStation 3 would turn up at this week's Taipei Game Show in playable form, but those too have been dashed.
Just as at last year's E3 and Tokyo Game Show, the only PlayStation 3 hardware on the floor was encased in a plastic prison. Worse still, the curvaceous and conceptual PlayStation 3 controller, scourge of many, was still being shown off.
All signs now point to March's Game Developers Conference as the next point of respite, as Sony's Phil Harrison is expected to drop at least some details during his keynote address.
