Nintendo Delays Zelda, Shelves DS
Bad news all around as Link's new adventure gets another delay. Will Nintendo be able to do anything to stop the Revolution rumours now?
It's the news Nintendo fans were dreading: Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess has been delayed again. The last hoorah for the GameCube will be nearly a year late when it finally arrives this autumn.
The news comes courtesy of Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime, who told US games TV channel Spike TV that the game would slip further, Next Generation is reporting.
When Nintendo last delayed the game, from its original autumn 2005 release date to this spring, it was to add extra content, the company said. It insisted, however, that the game was still coming for GameCube and would not be bumped to Revolution.
There have been persistent rumours that part of the delay is down to Nintendo's wanting to add new parts to the game that would work only on the Revolution (which can play GameCube discs out the box), with its motion-sensing controller.
In the same interview, Fils-Aime is reported to have said that Nintendo will phase out the original DS in US when the DS Lite launches later this year. In Japan, people will still be able to pick up either version. Nintendo hasn't said yet what will be the fate of the first DS model in Europe.
