Black Darkens Sales Charts
EA's blow-stuff-up game runs wild on the charts, though there's still something to keep the Ico team happy. No Rolling Stones puns inside.
Sony' Shadow of the Colossus may have slain EA on the charts last week, but it was powerless against Burnout developer Criterion's take on the first-person shooter, Black. Proving that people still like to just shoot stuff, Black soared to the top of the weekly charts.
It's not often that EA releases brand new games - Black is the company's first original game to debut at No. 1 in nearly a decade, according to Chart Track - but its pedigree and heavy advertising campaigned helped give it an edge.
There was another new game in the No. 2 slot too. Codemasters' diverse racing game TOCA Race Driver 3 built on the series' ever-more-solid reputation, helping it climb the rankings.
As Microsoft rolls out more and more Xbox 360 stock, its games are managing to cling onto the overall charts too. Project Gotham Racing 3 is still the best-performing Xbox 360-exclusive game on the charts, coming in at No. 23.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 25 February, as determined by Chart Track:
- Black (EA)
- TOCA Race Driver 3 (Codemasters)
- Need for Speed: Most Wanted (EA)
- Shadow of the Colossus (Sony)
- Star Wars: Empire At War (LucasArts)
- FIFA 06 (EA)
- The Sims 2 (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (Konami)
- Chicken Little (Buena Vista)
- Torino 2006 (2K Sports)
