EA Preps Superman's Game of Steel
The Man of Steel is back this summer, and EA's Madden team is working on his official game. HD screens inside.
Superman hasn't had a happy time in video games, with many pointing to his outing on the Nintendo 64 as one of the worst games ever made. EA will be hoping for much better things when it releases the official game of this summer's Superman Returns movie.
While most superhero games are paint-by-numbers affairs, the developers at EA Tiburon (home of Madden) are bringing something different.
Superman Returns: The Videogame has been designed as a freeform experience built around the 80 square miles and 10,000 buildings of Supes' hometown of Metropolis. A big part of the experience is focussed on the city, and how you protect (or neglect) it will influence how the game plays.
That's not to say that there aren't baddies, of course. Using Superman's expansive repertoire of movies, including flight, X-Ray Vision, Heat Vision, Super Hearing, Super Strength, Super Speed, and Super Breath, you'll fell monstrous entities, such as Metallo (pictured) and Parasite.
Movie fans will find elements ripped straight from the movie, but the game will have original content too.
Superman Returns: The Videogame is set for release on Xbox and PlayStation 2 this June, right around the release of the movie.
