Blizzard Scuppers WoW 360 Rumours
If you want to roam the realms with 6 million other players you're going to need to have a PC (or a Mac) for a while still.
The Xbox 360 provides what many would consider the best online console experience at the moment. World of Warcraft is the hottest massively multiplayer online game at the moment. A marriage of the two is inevitable, you would think, and the rumours have suggested that it's going to happen. Not so, says Blizzard.
"We do not have any plans to take World of Warcraft to Xbox 360," Blizzard's Paul Sams told MCV. "World of Warcraft is built as a PC gaming experience. Porting PC games to console often compromises games, and we'd never allow the World of Warcraft gameplay experience to suffer."
There are two big reasons why the company doesn't want to bring the game over.
First, Blizzard would only consider doing it if PC and Xbox 360 players could play together, but the closed nature of Xbox Live means that would be hard. Second, because it's been designed for PCs, it would be difficult to get the game working without a keyboard and mouse.
But the solid rebuffing of today doesn't mean that there's nothing on the cards for tomorrow, as Sams told MCV:
"I wouldn't say we have no console plans. Nothing is in place at the moment, but we may be looking at something along those lines in the future."
It's back to the waiting room, then.
