2K Games Snaps Up The Darkness
Majesco's troubles don't mean the end of Jackie Estacado's demon-tinged ways yet. Tentative release details inside.
The hard times hitting publisher Majesco left many comic book fans worried that its game based on Top Cows Comics' The Darkness would be shelved, but the project has been salvaged from the depths of publishing limbo by 2K Games.
Despite its previously shaky publishing outlook, The Darkness has always been in strong development hands. The game is under construction at Starbreeze, the people behind hit movie tie-in Chronicles of Riddick: Escape From Butcher Bay.
Based on the award-winning comic by Paul Jenkins, The Darkness recounts the travails of Jackie Estacado, a Mob hitman granted supernatural powers on his 21st birthday. A movie is scheduled for release in 2007, too.
Expect a torrent of bullets and blood in the first-person shooter adaptation, which, according to the developers, brings "a distinct blend of dark modern crime drama and supernatural horror with intense first person non-linear gameplay".
The Darkness is being made for unnamed next-gen consoles. It will be out sometime next winter.
