Halo 2 Still Tops on Xbox Live
Sixteen months on and still there's nothing that can knock Master Chief from his multiplayer perch.
It may be nearly a year and a half old, but Halo 2 is still the game to beat when it comes to online play on Xbox Live. The latest ranking of the most played online games puts Master Chief's second adventure at the top of the pile, according to a list put together by Microsoft's Xbox Live director, Larry Hyrb.
Perhaps surprisingly, coming in third place behind Activision's Call of Duty 2 is the just-released boxing game, Fight Night: Round 3. Apart from Halo 2 in the No. 1 spot, the rest of the Top 10 most popular games are all for the Xbox 360.
And while off-the-shelf games dominate the chart, it's heartening to see that Microsoft's no-frills Xbox Live Arcade is also managing to spawn popular games. Geometry Wars Retro Evolved, which was developed by Project Gotham Racing 3 creator Bizarre, rounds out the chart.
Below is the full list of Top 10 most popular games on Xbox Live, as given by Hyrb:
- Halo 2
- Call of Duty 2
- Fight Night Round 3
- Perfect Dark Zero
- Dead or Alive 4
- Project Gotham Racing 3
- Need for Speed: Most Wanted
- Battlefield 2: Modern Combat
- Madden NFL 06
- Geometry Wars Retro Evolved
