Namco: PS3 Spring Launch Impossible
The company has been a regular at Sony system launches in the past and it says it's still in the dark about when the new one will hit.
While there are clearly a lot of people ill equipped to comment on whether the PlayStation 3 will or will not make Sony's self-imposed spring release date, the companies already making games for the system hold much more weight. Which is why recent comments by the president of one of the biggest Japanese publishers are being taken so seriously.
"Without any announcements so far, the spring release is impossible," Namco Bandai president Takeo Takasu told news service Bloomberg. "We are developing titles for PlayStation 3, but the release of the games depends on the timing of the hardware."
Namco Bandai has been a big supporter for Sony in the past, with both of the past two PlayStation consoles and the PSP launching with games by the company.
Recent reports suggest that Sony is having trouble getting together all the components that will power the box. Specifically, the next-generation DVD Blu-ray drive has been fingered as one component causing delays.
For its part, Sony has continued to insist that the spring release is a go. The company has largely ignored all requests to clarify the launch situation. Sony will probably unveil its PlayStation 3 plans within the next few months, which will see two of the biggest video game conferences of the year.
