Ghosts Suffer Under EA Chart Assault
EA shows why it's the biggest publisher in the industry with another week in which it dominates sales charts.
Despite a healthy charge by Ubisoft's latest shooter, Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter, EA is still king of the charts with seven of the Top 10 games coming from the mega-publisher. The top slot went to arcade footie title FIFA Street 2 for the second week in a row, coming in ahead of the Ghosts and EA's new boxing game, Fight Night: Round 3, in third.
There's good news for Ubisoft though. Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter sold well for the Xbox 360 - so well that the game is the fastest selling game for Microsoft's next-gen system yet. Sales of Fight Night: Round 3 were also twice as good on the Xbox 360 as on the PlayStation 2, indicating that the installed base is steadily growing, despite the shortages that have plagued the early months of the console.
The ubiquitous Lemmings made their debut on the PSP last week too, as did Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, though nostalgia and retro-appeal weren't enough to propel either game into the top end of the chart.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 11 March, as determined by Chart Track:
- FIFA Street 2 (EA)
- Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter (Ubisoft)
- Fight Night: Round 3 (EA)
- Black (EA)
- The Sims 2: Open for Business (EA)
- TOCA Race Driver 3 (Codemasters)
- Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth II (EA)
- The Sims 2 (EA)
- Need for Speed: Most Wanted (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (Konami)
