Lara Gets a Date With the Xbox 360
The time is near for the final judgement. Has Crystal Dynamics managed to succeed where Core had been failing? Find out soon.
It's taken a lot of hard work to rescue Tomb Raider star Lara Croft from herself, but her latest adventure is at last ready for consumption. Eidos revealed this week that Ms Croft would be making her next-gen debut on Xbox 360 next month.
Tomb Raider: Legend is the product of the publisher's decision to step back and look anew at the series. Part of that process was axing her longtime minders at Core Designs and shifting work on the game to Crystal Dynamics. The move was made easier by the decision to bring Tomb Raider creator Toby Gard back into the team.
In this, the seventh instalment in the decade-old series, Lara gets new controls and a more demure look to tackle a foe from her past. The renewed focus on the gameplay that propelled the series to popularity in the first place is presented in high-definition using all the whiz-bang technology Microsoft's new box is capable of.
Tomb Raider: Legend will be out for Xbox 360 (and PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC too) on 7 April in Europe and 11 April in North America.
