StarCraft Gives Up the Ghost
Nearly four years in the making, Blizzard's console attempt hits rock bottom. There are glimpses of a next-gen future, though.
Starcraft: Ghost is becoming something of an albatross for Blizzard. The company has been battling for years to realize its console take on the popular Starcraft real-time strategy series but it's been beset with all sorts of production problems. Now the company has admitted that the game in its current incarnation is no more.
There's still hope for those hoping to play around with the invisibility suit (a source of many of the problems, apparently) in the Starcraft world. Blizzard is considering moving the project to next-gen consoles. There's no word on whether this will involve swapping out the current developers at Swinging Ape.
"Like many in the industry, we've been impressed with the potential of the new consoles, and we're looking forward to exploring that potential further," said Blizzard's Mike Morhaime in a press release last week.
"In addition to allowing us to determine the best course for StarCraft: Ghost, this review period will help us lay the groundwork for our future console games."
If such plans are given the go-ahead, look for StarCraft: Ghost to start inching into the spotlight as early as E3 in Los Angeles in May.
