Nintendo Sorts Out DS Lite Stock Woes
Our dreams of one day touching a DS Lite are one step closer to reality with the revelation that stock is on the up in Japan.
The chances of the DS Lite getting a Western release soon are looking better now that Nintendo seems to have taken care of its production problems. The coming weeks will see an influx of the new portable hitting Japan, setting the stage for rollouts in Europe and North America.
Nintendo will have cranked out around 550,000 DS Lites by the end of March and another 700,000 are planned for release in Japan in April. The latest sales figures there have the DS Lite selling around 100,000 units a week, though it seems this is still being throttled by supply.
The DS Lite is a smaller, sleeker version of Nintendo's dual-screen handheld. It was released earlier this month in Japan and sparked massive interest. The DS is dominating Japanese sales charts and regularly holds more than half of the Top 10.
Officially, Nintendo has not decided on a launch date for the DS Lite outside of Japan. Sources close to the company have suggested that the handheld could hit North America and Europe this May.
