Xbox Backwards Compatibility Updated
Criterion can relax now - Black has been added. And MS has fixed a few wonky games too. See if you can get rid of your Xbox yet.
Being an Xbox fan is no easy task in these early days. With backwards compatibility of the successor Xbox 360 still not completely sorted, many are hanging on to their older systems to play games not yet emulated properly. Microsoft is making giant strides, though, and it's just completed work on a batch that includes some of the biggest sellers of the current generation.
There are well over 200 Xbox games compatible with Xbox 360 now, with the latest additions including Black (after repeated requests from developer Criterion, apparently), Star Wars Battlefront II and Winning Eleven 9.
Microsoft has also been tightening up the backwards compatibility of some presumably buggy games. If you were having problems with Half-Life 2 or Fable, now's the time to give it another go.
The headaches stem from Microsoft's decision to change graphics chip and processor supplier for the Xbox 360. This means that the company has had to produce software that lets the incompatible games play on its new system. Around 210 games were ready for launch, not all completely, and Microsoft has been dripping games into the pool ever since.
The list of recently added and updated games is below. For the full list of compatible games, check out Microsoft's extensive list.
