Scarface This Fall, No 360 Version
Those wanting to play out Tony Montana's post-movie life will have to wait for a while still.
Tony Montana, lead character in seminal gangster flick Scarface, would very much like to introduce you to his little friend - in this case the tie-in video game. But with The Godfather hogging the mobster movie adaptation spotlight of late, things have been quiet for Scarface. That should soon change.
Publisher VU Games has revealed the game is on track for a fall release, according to GameSpot, right at the end of the sometime-in-2006 window it had set itself.
Some retailers have an Xbox 360 version of the game listed for release soon afterwards, even though VU Games has said that the game will not be coming to Microsoft's next-gen console.
"The reason for this is simple," said a VU Games representative on the company's forum. "When working on a game that is as complex as an open world game is and that needs to live up to an amazing license, it is better to focus on making the best game possible. In order to focus on making the best game possible, the whole team focused on current generation, rather than stretching themselves to do five versions."
Unlike other adaptations that satisfy themselves (and their audiences) by retelling the movie's story, Scarface picks up with Tony having survived the epic gun battle at the end of the flick and follows him as he builds respect and seeks vengeance in Miami's underworld.
