Ubisoft Unveils First Revolution Game
Think the Revolution will only have family friendly fare? Think again. Ubisoft preps new gun-slash-sword game.
With just days to go now until Nintendo's pre-E3 conference next month, people are nervously waiting to see the first games for the Revolution. Thanks to the leading US magazine, though, we have an early idea of at least one game in the line-up.
The latest issue of Game Informer has an expose on Red Steel, a lightgun game for the Revolution coming from Ubisoft Paris - a team that includes members of the Prince of Persia, Far Cry Instincts and Splinter Cell teams.
It's perhaps unfair to call Red Steel simply a lightgun game, since this raises mental images of crummy arcade titles and misspent tokens. Rather Red Steel takes full advantage of the motion sensing abilities of the Revolution controller, letting you play in all three dimensions, according to a partial transcript of the article at Joystiq. The controller will even recognise when you lunge at the screen or twist the handle.
As the name suggests, you won't only be handling guns. The limited backstory sees you using a special ceremonial katana to rescue your fiancee from Yakuza thugs who kidnapped her following a first unsuccessful attempt to get the sword - a mess that also saw your father-in-law-to-be being mortally wounded. Armed with the sword and an array of weapons, you'll set off to rescue your betrothed.
Red Steel is, of course, just one of the games in the making for the Revolution. According to an interview with Nintendo's George Harrison, also in the May issue of Game Informer, there are already 20 games coming, with about six of them from Nintendo itself.
