Lara Lands a Guinness Record
Ms Croft proves that there's more to her than just good looks and a spotty track record.
Over the years Lara Croft has gone places most other video game characters can only dream of - she even has a real-life doppelganger to give people a something more lifelike to fantasize about. Now the Tomb Raider star is getting something even she has never had before: a Guinness World Record.
The decade since Tomb Raider's release on PlayStation has been good to Lara - 28 million games sold, $1 billion in merchandise, 2 movies, 200 magazine covers and an onstage get-together with U2. All of this makes Lara the Most Successful Human Videogame Heroine, according to the good book, for "transcending the boundaries of videogames and becoming a recognisable figure in mainstream society".
Her most recent appearance is in Tomb Raider: Legend, which marks the debut of the series on the Xbox 360. The game made its global debut in Europe last week and hits the US this week (provided the rumours of a delay thanks to a bare breast allegedly making it into the game prove unfounded).
