Command & Conquer Back to the Future
It's stolen million of hours of not only free but also work time, so it's a fair bet there'll be some interest in another Command & Conquer. First screen.
More than a decade has passed since Command & Conquer took over the bedrooms of real-time strategy fanatics and the series is still held in high regard. Things have been quiet for a while but EA has finally confirmed the rumours that a long awaited third instalment, , is coming to PCs next year.
"We have been waiting to reveal this game for quite some time and are thrilled to bring the series back to where it all began," said EA's Louis Castle, formerly a member of the original team at developer Westwood. "The Tiberium universe is a personal favourite of mine, and this saga's new direction will prove to be a worthy addition to one of the most celebrated RTS franchises."
That direction involves the alien substance Tiberium, which is ravaging the Earth. While the Global Defense Initiative struggle to contain its unrelenting spread across the planet, Kane, leader of the opposing Brotherhood of NOD, wants to use the substance for his own gain.
The precise upgrades to the series are still a mystery, though EA is promising dynamic gameplay that responds to your style and customisation of units through combination. Fittingly for a genre commonplace in the professional gaming circuit, the game will include various online modes (including for spectators) that treat it more like a sport.
Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars will be out for PC sometime in 2007. For more on the series, check out EA's official site.
