Final Fantasy Fan Rapped Over Video
Square Enix has a polite reminder in store for those who forget that sharing videos is naughty.
Many Final Fantasy fans would rather forget the financial disaster that was Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. The big-budget movie died at the box office, pulling Square (which consequently merged with rival Enix) down with it. Now the company is making amends with Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, a full-length CG movie based in the popular game world. Some fans, however, are proving too enthusiastic.
Square Enix revealed this week that it reached an agreement with an unnamed person who had uploaded the complete movie to Google's popular video service. After asking Google to remove the movie, Square Enix chased down the perpetrator, who paid up after pleading guilty.
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children is part of Square Enix's somewhat belated campaign to cash in on the success of PlayStation hit Final Fantasy VII. It was released in Japan last September and has been slowly wending its way west ever since. The movie, which will be available on DVD and on UMD for the PSP, is now slated for release in the UK on 25 April and in North America on 26 April.
