EA Puts Sims Tech Into Fantasy RPG
New open-world RPG coming from EA. And the company wants to hear from you on making it better.
The buzzword in role-playing games these days is open-endedness - a cumbersome descriptor for worlds that have fewer constraints than before and that let you do pretty much what you want. The latest company jumping into the increasingly crowded pool is EA, which is already hard at work on a new, fantasy-based RPG.
The game, currently named Project Gray Company, has already been in the works for over a year. The developers aren't being too open yet with facts, but project lead Steve Gray says on the game's new site that it shares underlying technology - specifically to do with artificial intelligence - with runaway hit The Sims 2.
While there's a full world for you to explore however you like, you'll also be able to take on quests that advance the story or "others" - presumably ones that net you goodies.
There's no word on when the game is due or which platforms it's coming for, though Gray is determined to get his audience involved in the process:
"We'd like you to participate in designing this game and really make it the RPG experience you are looking for. I hope you'll jump on our message boards and let us know what you think about the game design as we describe it in more detail over the next several months."
"With your input, we will ensure that this game becomes the next great RPG we all want it to be."
