Sega Monkeys With the Revolution
Those lovable simians are back with bumped gameplay and minigames tailored for Nintendo's new controller.
If you look at the Revolution's nun-chuck controller from the right angle, you'll see something that looks very much like a banana. How appropriate, then, that Sega is working on a new Super Monkey Ball game for Nintendo's next-gen system.
Dubbed Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz, the game has seen its heritage tweaked around the Revolution's motion-sensing controller. The most obvious difference will be in singleplayer mode where you can now control the simians in all three dimensions, now that jumping has been thrown in.
A big part of the success of the Super Monkey Ball series is down to the addictive minigames. In the past, these have aped traditional sports such as golf and baseball. For the new game the designers have come up with new ways to play, including ring toss and whack-a-mole.
It's not clear whether Sega will return to the bold, bright presentation the series is known for or whether it'll use some of the rawer material being shoehorned into the upcoming PlayStation 2 game.
There's no word on when Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz will launch, but it's a fair bet that, like Super Monkey Ball on GameCube, it'll be there on launch day.
