Ubisoft's studio in Montreal has quickly built up a reputation for solid games thanks to its handling of popular series such as Splinter Cell, Prince of Persia and Rainbow Six. So it's worth paying attention to an announcement from Ubisoft today that the studio is working on a brand new franchise.
Assassin's Creed is a new franchise that kicks off with a PlayStation 3-exclusive game of the same name. The game is set during the Crusades in the early 12th century, when assassins were able to target both warring sides. You play one such assassin, Altair, who serves as a crucial cog in this particular wheel of time.
"Assassin's Creed is going to push the video game experience as we know it today into an entirely new direction," said Ubisoft's Yannis Mallat. "Assassin's Creed's compelling theme and storyline experienced through the next-generation console will captivate audiences and affect them on the same level as an epic novel or film."
The game is due out on PlayStation 3 sometime in 2007. For an early look, check out Ubisoft's official site for the game.
