EA Recruiting for Army of Two
Next-gen game built around co-operative anti-bad guy gameplay, but will next-gen AI be up to the task?
If you were playing a two-player game with a computer controlling the other player, do you think that the AI would be smart enough to keep up? This is the central question raised by EA's new two-man military action game Army of Two.
The game, in development at EA's new studio in Montreal, promises seamless two-player action where the computer will stand in when a second, live player isn't around. Your mini-army will tackle a story based on current events. We don't know what that means, but we presume it involves shooting terrorists and other freedom haters.
Army of Two would not have been possible before now, since EA is counting on the advanced artificial intelligence options opened up by the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.
"This is the game we've always wanted to create," said EA Montreal's Reid Schneider. "Until now, the hardware would not allow us to deliver truly intelligent AI characters."
"We've built this game with co-operative two man gameplay as the centrepiece of the experience. Whether you're playing with [intelligent partner AI] or a friend, it's about the two man missions, two man strategies and the two man advantage that really sets this game apart."
You'll find out if the new consoles have the smarts when Army of Two launches in 2007.
