Next-Gen Grand Theft Auto to PS3, 360
Rockstar drops its limited-time PlayStation exclusivity campaign, giving Microsoft fans access on day one.
The importance of the Xbox 360 in the next generation was emphatically underlined on Tuesday with Rockstar's announcement that the next Grand Theft Auto game would be coming to both Microsoft's next-gen box and the PlayStation 3 simultaneously in 2007.
"Few franchises have had the profound impact on our industry as Grand Theft Auto," said Microsoft's Peter Moore at the company's briefing ahead of this week's Electronic Entertainment Expo, where the game was announced.
"Gamers can't wait to play Grand Theft Auto IV in high definition on Xbox 360, and we couldn't be more excited to have the title on our platform from day one."
What's more, while the game will be coming to both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, only owners of Microsoft's system will be able to download additional episodic content, which will be delivered through Xbox Live.
There are no gameplay details yet for Grand Theft Auto IV, but we do know that Rockstar has earmarked 16 October 2007 for the game's release.
