PS3 Controller Changes Made Recently
Did Sony take inspiration from Nintendo? The mounting evidence suggests so.
One of the biggest surprises at Sony's pre-E3 conference was the addition of motion-sensing capabilities to the PlayStation 3 controller. That only one game at the event supported the feature hinted that it was a late addition, something confirmed during our time on the show floor.
Warhawk by Incognito uses the tilt feature to control all in-game movement. It wasn't always meant to be that way, though.
The game was only recently rewritten to make use of it, the game's producer, Dylan Jobe, told Kikizo. While he refused to say exactly when Sony started letting developers know that the feature was coming, Jobe did admit that it was within the last six months.
Jobe also said that the team had been creating the game with the feature in mind. The general sense was that Sony has something new coming for the controller, so Incognito got the game ready should motion-sensing be revealed.
Since Sony revealed the new feature on Monday, people have been speculating that Sony latched onto Nintendo's Wii motion-sensing capabilities, which were revealed at the Tokyo Game Show last September. The late changes made to the controller seem to support this.
