Halo 3 Comes Out Tops on Xbox Live

No surprises here then as Master Chief tops the latest download chart.

Microsoft puts its Xbox Live service to good use last week, giving millions of connected Xbox 360 owners a taste behind the scenes at the recent Electronic Entertainment Expo. When the dust had settled and the downloads had been tallied, Xbox Live had had its best week ever.

More than 1.5 million people went on Xbox Live during the game studded week, and together they made 24 million downloads totalling 600 terabytes of data.

And it wasn't just Xbox Live that saw a surge. Microsoft's official Xbox.com site saw twice as many users, ramping to 6 million for the week.

"The sheer volume of downloads during E3 week was simply staggering," said Microsoft's Peter Moore.

"While others talk about online entertainment in the console space, we are delivering it in glorious high-definition to the millions of members we have across 24 countries."

Not surprisingly, Microsoft's biggest announcement of the show also resulted in the most traffic through Xbox Live. The brief Halo 3 trailer topped a list that contained previews and bonus material for some of the top-selling games of today and tomorrow.
