BioShock Racks Up E3 Awards
2K Games looks to be on to a hit with its new shooter-cum-RPG extravaganza.
Each year people walk out of the Electronic Entertainment Expo with a few buzz-worthy games in their heads. One of the biggest this year is 2K Games and Irrational Games' BioShock, which has done a good job of capturing the collective imagination of the show's attendees and racked up a number of awards in the process.
To be more precise, BioShock has amassed an impressive 17 E3 awards already in the weeks since the show and it's up for another four in the prestigious Game Critics Awards, which will be decided on Wednesday.
"We are very pleased with the overwhelming enthusiasm BioShock received at E3," said 2K Games' Christoph Hartmann. "Irrational Games is at the forefront of defining next generation gaming with BioShock."
Key to the wow factor the game has managed to build is the emergent gameplay, where the game's living underwater world responds to your actions. The game also manages to cross over many genres and includes adventure, role-playing and first-person shooter bits.
Unfortunately, we're going to have to wait to try the game for ourselves. BioShock, which is coming to Xbox 360 and PC, isn't due until sometime in 2007.
