MS Denies Slowing Xbox Game Support
Peter Moore told Kikizo it's not so important anymore. Apparently he didn't get the memo.
Microsoft has calmed Xbox fans rankled by comments that it would be cutting back work on making more Xbox games backward compatible with the Xbox 360. Despite word from the top to the contrary, the Microsoft blog says the company will still be supporting last-gen games on its new system.
"We hear directly from [the developers working on backward compatibility] that they're in the testing phase of another update, and it should be out in the next few weeks," writes Microsoft's John Porcarro on the GamerScoreBlog. "We saw the list they're testing, and it looks like they're hoping to add at least a dozen titles."
The turbulence comes after Microsoft's Peter Moore told Kikizo that the company would soon be cutting back on backward compatibility, despite other comments from within the company that it would try to get all Xbox games working.
This is, however, easier said than done, as Porcarro explains:
"Long before the launch, we thought we might hit a few dozen titles, and we all feel pretty good about the list of well over 200 titles on the [backward compatibility] list today, including many of the games that you've asked for. You all have heard us say the work isn't simple."
"Many games did unique things to take advantage of the processing power of the Xbox, and that makes it difficult to emulate, especially when we then have to make new code work with existing (and future) compatible titles."
There's no word yet on which games will be included in the next update or how many more updates, if any, we can expect after that.
