Sony Chief Gets His Xs Mixed
Sir Howard Stringer just can't get the Xbox 360 out of his head, it seems.
Sir Howard Stringer may be head of the one of the biggest technology companies around, but the new head of Sony has revealed just how much the competition is on his mind. Speaking at the recent D: All Things Digital conference, Sir Howard got his Xs mixed up, much to the delight of observers.
While comparing the performance of big screen hit The Da Vinci Code with its competition, he boasted how the movie beat even "Xbox 3" in Europe in its second week of release when he actually meant X-Men 3, says a report at Next Generation based on a piece at the Wall Street Journal. When he was corrected, Sir Howard reportedly laughed and admitted, "There's an obsession!"
The talk did eventually switch to video games, and when it did, Sir Howard was quick to defend the much-ballyhooed price of the PlayStation 3, saying that it had "more bells and whistles than a 747."
"The reason it's expensive," he said, "[is that] instead of concentrating on just the games player, which would have been done in the past, PlayStation 3 is designed to go somewhere else, where it's the center of the living room."
