Guild Wars Claims 2 Million
We think that not having to pay more every month could have something to do with it.
Any talk of massively multiplayer online games quickly turns to World of Warcraft and its multimillion-and-growing user base. But Blizzard's game isn't the only MMO game of note out there. Just ask NCsoft, which today revealed the sales figures for Guild Wars.
By NCsoft's reckoning, sales of the Guild War franchise have now topped 2 million units, with Guild Wars Factions making a successful debut recently and following on the healthy sales of Guild Wars Prophecies.
"Our fans have been overwhelmingly supportive of Guild Wars and we will continue to make the Guild Wars franchise bigger and better with each release," said Patrick Wyatt, co-founder of ArenaNet, the series' developer.
A big part of the success of the Guild Wars games likely comes down to players not having to pay subscription fees month after months as they have to in most other MMO games.
