Geometry Wars Eyes Store Shelves
Microsoft is reported to be thinking about bringing Xbox Live Arcade games to retail.
The Xbox Live Arcade has been much more of a hit than Microsoft had hoped for, and now it's thinking of ways to push the service forward.
The logical extension is to bring in more games, which the company is doing by working with publishers big and small to rejuvenate classics games and conceive brand new ideas. Another path being considered is to release popular Xbox Live Arcade games in stores.
Peter Moore, a vice president at the company, is pushing to make sure that the 50 per cent or so of Xbox 360 owners not online also get a chance to experience the thrills of the service, according to a report at Next Generation.
Games like Geometry Wars Retro Evolved, Smash TV and Hardwood Hearts have been mentioned, though there are no firm plans in place yet. There was reportedly no mention of whether Microsoft was planning to release one disc with several games on it or if it would release the games - which sell for around $5 to $15 on Xbox Live - as standalone titles.
