Final Fantasy XII Set for Halloween Launch
Square Enix's long-awaited (and long delayed) RPG is finally coming to the West.
Square Enix has bad news for you if you were hoping to while away the warm summer months with Final Fantasy XII. The PlayStation 2 game now has an official North American launch date of 31 October, with the European date still to be decided.
Americans will be able to choose between two flavours come Halloween. In addition to the regular edition, Square Enix is bringing out a collector's box that has a second disc filled with developer interviews, art, trailers and other behind-the-scenes stuff. This box will only be available through GameStop, EB Games, and their online counterparts, and Square Enix hasn't confirmed whether it will be coming to the UK.
Final Fantasy XII is the first traditional Final Fantasy game since Final Fantasy X, which was released in 2002. Those intervening years have not gone without an injection of Final Fantasy, though, as we've seen a string of spin-offs for the PlayStation 2 and other consoles.
The game is already out in Japan, where it's sold more nearly 2.5 million copies since March.
The story comes with that same stale save-the-world core, but built on it is a tale of political struggle that follows a rabble-rouser and a surviving princess in their quest for justice and revenge.
