Ridge Racer Sequel Bound for PSP
Namco's driver was one of the best early games on the portable, so this isn't too much of a surprise.
Namco's drift-heavy driving game Ridge Racer was one of the first big titles on the PSP, and more than a year later the company has revealed it's getting ready to release the inevitable sequel.
The game, which is in the hands of new project leaders at the recently merged Namco Bandai, won't stray much from the formula that made the first game so successful, suggests a report in Japanese magazine Famitsu, via IGN.
The core gameplay will remain unchanged and still feature lots of drifting, plenty of nitro boosting, and sometimes insane speeds. This time you'll be doing it on more courses than ever now that Ridge Racer 2 pushes the track count limit for the series, thanks to 18 track plucked from the series' rich history.
All the previous game modes return, and there are a few new types too. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like online play is coming to the series for this instalment either, as wireless play is again limited to eight players over a local network.
The good news is that work on the game is coming along well, and Namco Bandai is planning to release the game in Japan in the middle of September.
