MS Puts Xbox Live Arcade on Track
And the first order of business is giving us a firm release date for Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting.
The Xbox Live Arcade is a good idea and things started off well for the download service, but there's a definite mustiness setting in, as we go longer and longer with little in the way of new games to play. Microsoft is on the case.
Starting Wednesday, 12 July, Microsoft is putting into place a schedule that will bring new stuff to the Arcade on a weekly basis. The scheme, called Xbox Live Wednesdays, is only planned to run through the summer for now.
Still, gift horses and all that. And the good news is that one of the most eagerly awaited Xbox Live Arcade games is finally nearing release. Capcom announced that it was bringing over Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting in the beginning of the year, but it's missed every release date since then. You can now expect it on 2 August.
The release list (see below) is made up of mostly classic games, though their respective developers have gone back to add next-gen sensibilities, such as rejuvenated visuals and online play.
- 12 July - Frogger
- 19 July - Cloning Clyde
- 26 July - Galaga
- 2 August - Street Fighter II' Hyper Fighting
- 9 August - Pac-Man
