EA Shuffles Six on to Wii
World's biggest publisher backs Nintendo's new machine, but don't expect completely new games.
There was some trepidation that with the Wii making a radical departure from the norm, big publishers might not get on board, but the biggest of them all, EA, shows no sign of slowing its porting philosophy.
The company announced today that it's working on six games for Nintendo's new system, including: Madden NFL, Need for Speed, Harry Potter, Tiger Woods PGA Tour, SSX, and the Godfather.
Though the games may not be wholly new, EA had a dedicated team working on Wii ports, to ensure that the most is made of the innovative controller Nintendo is making. And it's all thanks to Madden, says EA's John Schappert.
"Once we started to experiment with Madden on Wii, there was an explosion of innovation," he said. "Everyone in the studio is energized by the creative opportunity afforded by both the hardware and controller."
"By reaching into our catalogue, we are able to bring a fresh and distinctive experience to some of EA's most popular franchises. Creatively, the game play possibilities are staggering and endless."
Madden NFL 07 is probably the farthest along was already shown off at the Electronic Entertainment Expo earlier this year. Things have been shifted about in the game to make controlling the experience much more physical.
It doesn't end with this dirty half-dozen either. According to EA, it has more games coming that will be unveiled soon.
