Phil Harrison Defends Sony's Honour
Sony has been under fire for more than a month, but Harrison is coming to the rescue.
Sony's top men have been having a tough time since the PlayStation 3's somewhat underwhelming debut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in May. Part of that has been down to the spin game, which the company has tuned to an art form - so much so that it's been accused of being arrogant. Not so, says Sony's Phil Harrison.
"There's always going to be a risk when you are market leader for ten years that we start to lose perspective; and we have to make sure that we don't lose perspective. But I don't think we're arrogant," Harrison told game blog Joystiq at the Develop conference in Brighton this week.
"I think we have to recognize that we're in a highly competitive industry and that anything that we say will be eternally editorialized by professionals and consumers alike. So we're always in the spotlight."
The most recent criticism of the company has come from long-time British game maker Jeff Minter. The man behind such classics as Tempest 2000 called Sony out for its "incredibly arrogant" attitude in a column for games magazine Edge.
