WWE SmackDown vs Raw for PS3 Canned
No men in tights for you on Sony's new machine, at least not this Christmas.
Much has been made of the difficulties small developers face in getting up to speed with the PlayStation 3, but an announcement this week from THQ sent a clear signal that it's not just the small fish that fear the cutting edge.
THQ, no minnow publisher by any means, revealed late last week that it has canned development on the PlayStation 3 version of its latest wrestling game, WWE SmackDown vs Raw 2007.
A statement by the company, relayed by Next Generation, points to the messy water so commonplace at the launch of new hardware:
"Consistent with our goal of delivering the highest quality content across all next-gen platforms, we have decided to postpone the debut of the SmackDown series on PlayStation 3 until the holiday 2007 timeframe."
The worrying part of the cancellation is that this is a series that has called Sony consoles home for several years, and that hints at difficulties in bringing the code over to the substantially more complex PlayStation 3.
There's still hope if you're eager to play with the men in tights on a next-gen system: WWE SmackDown Vs Raw 2007 is still coming to Xbox 360 as well as PlayStation 2 and PSP.
