Cars Lost to Grand Theft Auto
And things are still looking good for the DS. All this and more in our weekly chart update.
Pixar's new movie, Cars, may not be getting the same sort of critical praise ladled onto it as its predecessors managed, but the movie is enough of a hit that it's driving kids into stores to pick up the accompanying game. But even the strength of a thousands tantrums wasn't enough to unseat the current chart champion.
For the fifth week in a row, Toni and his law-deriding cohorts in Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories came out on top. This is impressive performance for a game that was already a big hit on the PSP, and it bodes well for the upcoming Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories.
Other movie games warming the top of the charts include not one but two for Johnny Depp's new pirate flick, and Over the Hedge, also based on a CG movie, is doing well too.
The DS Lite is comfortably pulling away from the PSP these days, thanks to the excellent performance of Nintendo's homegrown games. A quarter of the Top 20 is made up of DS-exclusive titles, with New Super Mario Bros hanging tough near the top.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 22 July, as determined by Chart Track:
