Cars Idles in First Place
Will the summer drought ever end? We can only hope so. In the meantime, THQ's movie tie-in has a firm grasp on the charts.
Across the Atlantic, US gamers are sitting down to a refreshing bout of zombie slashing in Dead Rising for the Xbox 360. Britons aren't so lucky. Instead, with few new games coming out, the same games are dominating the charts.
And so it is that THQ's movie tie-in Cars finds itself on top of the scrap heap for another week, making it three in a row. That's not so surprising.
What is surprising is the resurgence of The Sims. Thanks to retailers pushing the series hard, The Sims, the original one, is in the Top 5 this week, and the sequel is not far behind. Even the expansion packs are doing well, and there are six titles in the franchise in the Top 40.
Elsewhere, the looming football season is still helping last year's FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer updates, though with the new editions due soon, that enthusiasm is likely to drop off.
There's not much of note in the offing over the next couple weeks, so expect the chart to look very similar next week. Come September, though, and things start to get interesting again.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 12 August, as determined by Chart Track:
- Cars (THQ)
- Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (Rockstar)
- New Super Mario Bros (Nintendo)
- The Sims (EA)
- Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? (Nintendo)
- The Sims 2 (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (Konami)
- Need For Speed: Most Wanted (EA)
- Pirates of The Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest (Buena Vista)
- Over The Hedge (Activision)
