Cars Abandoned in First Place
Had enough of the summer? We have. But we're pretty sure that THQ isn't minding the current situation.
If there's an oasis in this disgusting desert of a summer we're having this year, it's early September, because that's when companies feel the early heat of the Christmas inferno. It's also when some of the bigger games of the year will start coming out. That time hasn't arrived yet.
Instead, we're left with another quiet week, with THQ's movie cash-in Cars being a perfect example of why publishers will never stop making licensed games. The name-recognition gifted to it by the movie is still pulling kids into stores, holding the game at the top of this rotting pile of repeat showers for another week.
The business end of the chart is otherwise populated largely by Sims games and DS titles. Rockstar's portable-turned-PS2 game Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is neither and yet it still managed a runner-up position for another week.
Below are the top 10 games in the UK for the week ending 19 August, as determined by Chart Track:
- Cars (THQ)
- Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories (Rockstar)
- New Super Mario Bros (Nintendo)
- The Sims 2 (EA)
- Pro Evolution Soccer 5 (Konami)
- Dr Kawashima's Brain Training: How Old Is Your Brain? (Nintendo)
- Need For Speed: Most Wanted (EA)
- The Sims (EA)
- Animal Crossing: Wild World (Nintendo)
- FIFA 06 (EA)
