DS Lite and PSP Set for Pink Face-Off
More pink headed to retailers. Where will the pink madness end? Find out when the two portables go head-to-head in October.
It seems a somewhat backward notion if you think about: Make it pink, and girls will buy it. But that isn't stopping Sony and Nintendo from bringing the female-friendly hue to their video game hardware.
After Sony said earlier this week it would be turning the PlayStation 2 pink, both it and Nintendo have said that they're planning to release similarly recoloured versions of their handhelds in Europe.
The pink PSP is actually the P!nk PSP, thanks to a deal struck with the pop star of the same name. It seems P!nk, or Alecia Beth Moore as tax officials know her, is a cross-cultural icon, and Sony is hoping to tap into her moxie.
The pink DS Lite is less of a surprise. The top-selling portable is already available in this flavour in Japan, and the bundled pink DS (the original, fat one) that came with Nintendogs last year was very popular. Nintendo revealed the new colour during its presentation in Leipzig, Germany, during this week's Games Convention 2006.
Look for stores to be very girly come this autumn, as both the pink DS Lite and the P!nk PSP are due on 27 October.
