Sony Denies PSP Price Cut for Xmas
Things are going just fine, says Sony. Plus, the pink PSP is coming...
Things are shaking up in the world of the PSP. The portable is still drowning in PlayStation 2 ports, but more original games are starting to trickle out, and the hardware has taken on a few new hues, with a pink PSP coming in October. One thing the PSP is not getting, though, is a price cut.
European PlayStation boss David Reeves told MCV that the PSP, which sells for £150, will not drop in price before Christmas. He left the door open for retailers to create "value-added offerings", or bundles, but the core hardware won't be going any cheaper this year.
Despite the DS overtaking the PSP in all three major regions, Sony doesn't seem to be shifting its direction.
"In our minds," Reeves told MCV, "it's doing very well and we're very happy with the performance. I think next year you'll see it go to a much higher level."
There will, however, be a change in the type of games appearing on the PSP. Reeves copped to the glut of ports and said that Sony was now pushing to get more original content, in a bid to attract fresh hands to the system.
