MS Nudges Euro Xbox 360 Price Down
It's not much, but it's a start. The real question is whether it's going to do anything to bring in fence-sitters.
What is it about a string of nines that turns potential purchasers into proud product owners? Whatever the reason, the effect will soon make its way into the Microsoft aisle at your local game outlet, with the news that the Xbox 360 is shedding a bit of weight.
Microsoft officially dropped the price of the Xbox 360 core system - that's the one that comes without a hard drive - from £209 to £199 on Friday, a fact well-advertised through advertising over the long weekend here in the UK.
The move has no effect on the price of the premium bundle, which will still go for £279.
Microsoft is using these last months ahead of the PlayStation 3's launch in November to emphasise its lead over Sony. Microsoft sold more than 5 million Xbox 360s by the end of June - 1.3 million of those in Europe. The company is confident that it'll have a 10-million-unit lead over the PlayStation 3 by the time it launches.
