MS: 360 will Hit 1m in UK Before Xmas
The Xbox 360 may not be doing quite as well in Europe, but it seems to be doing more than all right in the UK.
Microsoft is trying to make the most of the yearlong head start the Xbox 360 has on the PlayStation 3. The company hit its target of 5 million units sold by the end of June, but only around 1.3 million of those were sold in Europe. The UK is, seemingly, not to blame for the relatively poor performance of the console in Europe, as suggested by new predictions from Microsoft.
Before Christmas rolls around, Microsoft will have sold 1 million Xbox 360s in the UK alone, according to a report at MCV. So says Microsoft's European boss, Chris Lewis, who is preparing for another rush at Europe when the Xbox 360 is released in Eastern Europe.
And it's likely because the Xbox 360 is already doing well in the UK that Lewis says there's no plan for a price cut right now.
"We have no intention of making any price moves with 360," Lewis told MCV. "We offer great value right now and great choice thanks to the core and premium systems. We will also have 160 games and totally own football, so there is plenty to be driving demand."
Microsoft is hoping to sell 10 million Xbox 360s worldwide by the end of the year, giving Sony and the PlayStation 3, which launches in November, a considerable hill to climb.
