No 1080p Movies on PS3 Out the Box
If you want to play Blu-ray movies at the highest possible setting, you are going to need to spare a few dollars when you buy your PS3.
At $600 for the upper, more fully featured model, there's nothing cheap about the PlayStation 3. But with that expenditure comes the peace of mind knowing you will have everything you need to get the most out of the system. Well, almost.
Sony's official PlayStation 3 site brings the perhaps unsurprising news that owners of the top model PlayStation 3 will still need to shell out for an appropriate HDMI cable if they want to watch Blu-ray movies in 1080p.
This is nothing new, of course. Sony and other hardware makers have long packed in more mainstream cables, leaving the top-notch stuff as an optional add-on, but since Microsoft was courteous enough to include its high-end cable with the premium Xbox 360 bundle, potential PlayStation 3 owners were likely hoping for similar treatment.
It should be noted that this information surfaced on the official US PlayStation 3 site. A Sony Europe spokesperson told Kikizo that neither the prices nor the contents of the two PlayStation 3 models are final yet, though an announcement is due soon.
